Mamoru Oshii's 1995 film is a masterpiece of paralysis, beautiful, cold, and more interested in its own philosophy than in the people supposedly living it. Stand Alone Complex takes the same world and asks what happens when you actually let it breathe. Section 9 functions. Cases get worked. Politics metastasize. The Laughing Man arc across 1st GIG remains some of the tightest conspiracy writing ever put to television, the kind that assumes you're paying attention and doesn't apologize when you aren't. 2nd GIG goes darker and more personal, which shouldn't work at this scale and somehow does anyway. Yoko Kanno's score is doing half the heavy lifting throughout, blending choral electronics into something that sounds like the future grieving itself. This is what prestige sci-fi animation looks like when it's made by people who actually read.

Anime-Kraze is not just a name reconstructed from later databases on Stand Alone Complex. The group's own archived release page marks Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex as Dropped and lists episodes 1 through 19.

The more important primary source is Anime-Kraze's August 18, 2003 news post. The group says it dropped both Gundam SEED and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex after a request from a Bandai Entertainment marketing employee.
Why it matters
That gives us a direct example of the old fansub licensing code operating in real time. A distributor contacted the group, and Anime-Kraze publicly documented that it stopped. The page also turns the SAC release from a later database association into a group-owned project record.

When Bandai Entertainment licensed Stand Alone Complex for North American DVD distribution in 2004, the commercial release maintained the community's demand for dual-audio fidelity. The official dub was lauded by fansub purists, cementing SAC as a flagship milestone in the transition from underground IRC downloads to commercial home video.
