Naruto Uzumaki was born on the night the Fourth Hokage sealed the Nine-Tailed Fox inside him to save the village. The village watched the demon go in. It forgot to tell the child what it had done to him. What followed was twelve years of a boy growing up knowing he was hated and not knowing why, loud, relentless, failing every test, eating ramen alone, until the day he graduated dead last from the Academy and became a ninja anyway through sheer refusal to stay down.
That is the premise. What the series becomes is something larger.
Naruto ran for 220 episodes on TV Tokyo from 2002 to 2007, produced by Studio Pierrot from Masashi Kishimoto's manga. The Chunin Exam arc is one of the great tournament sequences in shonen history. Naruto vs. Neji is a thesis statement about fate and effort that the show earns through fifty episodes of buildup before it delivers. The Sasuke Retrieval arc ends on failure, the hero does not get his friend back, does not keep his promise, is found in the dirt by Kakashi while Sasuke walks away, and that failure is the most radical thing a shonen series had done to its protagonist in years.
In the West, Cartoon Network aired a version. That version was not this. The broadcast cut removed blood, altered dialogue, and softened the things the show was specifically built around. The fansub community knew it immediately. ANBU-AonE, the result of a merger between two of the era's most respected groups, became the definitive answer. Their karaoke openings. Their translation fidelity. The weekly releases that IRC rooms and BitTorrent trackers distributed before streaming existed as a concept. Before Crunchyroll. Before legal alternatives. Before anyone in the industry believed Western audiences would watch anime subtitled in volume.
This archive holds the complete ANBU-AonE fansub run, all 220 episodes, the version the community actually watched, the version that built the Western Naruto fandom from the ground up. Not the broadcast. Not the remaster. The original release, as it was distributed, as it was intended.

Standard ninjutsu balances two internal energies: Physical Energy and Spiritual Energy. Senjutsu introduces a third, external component - Natural Energy (Shizen Enerugi) pulled directly from the atmosphere, earth, and sky. Blend all three correctly and you get Sage Chakra. Miss the ratio and you get nothing - or a statue.

Exact ratio or failure

To mold Sage Chakra, a user must gather Natural Energy and blend it in an exact one-third ratio with their physical and spiritual reserves. Too little Natural Energy: the technique fails entirely - zero Sage Chakra forms. Too much: nature energy violently swallows the body. The user permanently mutates into stone (a stone toad at Mount Myoboku, or a snake at Ryuchi Cave). Perfect balance unlocks Sage Mode - exponential durability, sensory range, and environmental reach.

Sage Variants

Two mountains, two curricula

Sage Mode is not one costume. Mount Myoboku and Ryuchi Cave teach different contracts, different marks, and different combat math. Same third energy. Different animals holding the leash.

Toad Sage Mode

Mt. Myoboku
Masters: Fukasaku, Jiraiya, Naruto Uzumaki. Visual marks: pigmented orange eyes and toad pupils. Advantages: Frog Kumite - an invisible nature-energy strike radius that hits before contact - plus extreme resistance to blunt-force trauma. The Leaf's version of "stand still and still win."

Snake Sage Mode (Dragon Sage)

Ryuchi Cave
Masters: White Snake Sage, Kabuto Yakushi. Visual marks: dragon horns and snake-like eye membranes. Advantages: immunity to optical and auditory genjutsu, plus Inorganic Reanimation - animating terrain that was never alive. A sage mode built for control freaks and cave politics.

What a jinchuriki is

"Jinchuriki" translates literally to "Power of Human Sacrifice." Nine colossal masses of living chakra - originally split from the Ten-Tails by the Sage of Six Paths - sealed inside human vessels to act as walking nuclear deterrents for the Five Great Nations. The seal is a weapon. The person wearing it is the magazine.

Transformation Tiers

How the leak becomes a monster

When a jinchuriki taps the sealed beast, the body cycles through distinct, highly volatile phases. Each tier buys power by spending humanity. The upper floors do not give change.

Tier 1: Initial Leak

Vapor / red eyes

Minimal bijuu chakra leaks through the seal, usually triggered by extreme anger or desperation. Eyes turn red with slitted pupils; fangs elongate; nails become claws. Wounds begin healing almost instantly. The warning light before the cloak.

Tier 2: Version 1 Cloak

Red chakra bubble

A translucent, bubbling red shroud forms around the user, manifesting physical tails equal to the energy drawn. The cloak acts as an automatic burning defense. Bijuu tails stretch into kinetic limbs and strike from meters away.

Tier 3: Version 2 Cloak

Corrosive black-red flesh

High-density bijuu chakra turns pitch-black and dark crimson, destroying skin and mixing directly with blood. The user starts to look like a miniature, skinless version of the beast. Highly unstable - Naruto loses human reasoning in four-tail and six-tail states while blood continuously burns and regenerates.

Tailed Beast Bomb (Bijuudama)

Ultimate finisher · 8:2 ratio

The absolute highest tier of shape and nature manipulation available to a beast. The user compresses positive black chakra (+8) and negative white chakra (-2) in an exact 8:2 ratio into an ultra-dense sphere, then swallows or launches it. A single Bijuudama can vaporize a mountain range or a Hidden Village in a fraction of a second. This is what "nuclear deterrent" meant before anyone said the words.
