She's completely fearless, routinely yelling at terrifying galactic tyrants and super-powered aliens without breaking a sweat. She was holding the plot together from day one.

Goku spends most of the Saiyan countdown dead and training with King Kai. Earth's Dragon Balls are held until the timing is right, then Shenron is used to bring him back to life.
The wish works. The commute does not disappear. Goku still has to race back down Snake Way while Nappa and Vegeta are already on Earth.
