Mobile Suit Gundam SEED · Primary Protagonist / Strike and Freedom Pilot

Kira is a Coordinator engineering student living in the neutral colony Heliopolis when a ZAFT attack puts him inside the experimental Strike Gundam. He never wanted to be a soldier, but he is the only person present who can rewrite the machine's operating system quickly enough to make it fight. That talent immediately traps him between two worlds. His closest civilian friends are Naturals aboard the Archangel, while his childhood friend Athrun is now a ZAFT pilot trying to capture the same Gundams Kira is defending. Kira becomes frighteningly good at combat and hates what that says about the situation he is in. Later, the Freedom gives him a way to fight with more control over who survives. His story is less about becoming unbeatable than deciding what strength is actually for.

GAT-X105 Strike

Piloted by Kira Yamato Open →
The one Gundam that doesn't get stolen, and the reason the entire series has a protagonist. Strike is built around a modular Striker Pack system, different weapon loadouts physically docked onto the suit depending on mission needs, making it less a single fixed machine than a chassis Kira has to keep re-equipping mid-war.

ZGMF-X10A Freedom

Kira Yamato's late-series upgrade Open →
Kira's successor machine once Strike stops being enough for the war he's actually fighting. A demonstration bout between Strike and Freedom is referenced in official material as proof there's barely any raw output difference between the two, meaning Freedom's real advantage isn't brute power, it's what a more advanced, purpose-built frame lets a pilot actually do with that power.
