MISA AMANE SPOILER!

Misa Amane
MA

Death Note · Major Supporting / Second Kira

Misa Amane is a popular model and actress who becomes the Second Kira after receiving a Death Note from the Shinigami Rem. Her parents were murdered, and Kira's killing of the man responsible turns her admiration for Kira into intense personal devotion. Misa trades half of her remaining lifespan for the Shinigami Eyes, allowing her to see a person's real name simply by looking at their face. That makes her enormously useful to Light and enormously vulnerable to him. Misa is energetic, impulsive and much less cautious than Light, but she is not powerless or unintelligent. Her willingness to sacrifice for him repeatedly changes the investigation, while Rem's determination to keep Misa alive becomes one of the few limits Light cannot ignore.

Misa Arrives With the Shinigami Eyes

SPOILER! Open →

Second Kira · Sakura TV Tapes · Names Without Research

Misa Amane enters the Kira case with something Light deliberately refused to buy: the Shinigami Eyes. Her tapes to Sakura TV announce a second Kira, and her ability to identify people by sight gives her a completely different operating style. She does not need Light's research network or patience. She needs a face.
What changed
The investigation is no longer one Kira against L. Light now has to control an ally who is more exposed, more emotional and in one crucial way more dangerous than he is. See The Eye Contract (50% Lifespan Sacrifice).

Rem Makes Misa the One Person Light Cannot Treat as Disposable

SPOILER! Open →

Protection as a Constraint

Misa gives Light enormous reach, but Rem changes the cost of using her. Rem makes it clear that if Light causes Misa's death, Rem will kill him. Light therefore cannot solve the problem the way he solves most problems. He has to keep Misa useful, alive and emotionally attached while staying ahead of L.
Why it matters
Rem's protection looks like a limit on Light. Eventually Light turns that same protection into the mechanism that removes L.

Rem Kills L and Watari to Save Misa

L's Test · Rem's Choice · Light's Checkmate

The false thirteen-day rule keeps Light and Misa safe only until L decides to test it. If the rule is proven fake, Misa becomes a suspect again and faces execution. Light has arranged the case so Rem sees only one way to protect her. Rem writes Watari's name and then L's, extending Misa's life and triggering the Shinigami rule that kills Rem.
What changed
Light defeats L without ever learning L's true name. He makes Rem pay the price instead. See The Protection Paradox: How a Shinigami Can Die for a Human.

The 13-Day Fake Rule Deception

SPOILER! Open →

Ryuk's Forged Constraint · A Temporary Alibi

Light has Ryuk add false rules to the notebook recovered from Higuchi. The most important claims that an owner will die if thirteen days pass without another name being written. Because Light and Misa were confined for longer than thirteen days while the killings continued, the rule appears to prove they could not have been Kira.
What changed
The fake rule buys Light an alibi, not permanent safety. L Never Fully Accepts the Thirteen-Day Rule. Once he moves toward testing it, Rem understands that Misa can become a suspect again.
