ASUKA TACHIBANA
AT
Asuka has one of the absolute best redemption arcs in the entire series. He starts off as an incredibly arrogant, stuck-up HOLY elite who fights with "Eternity Eight", a set of floating green orbs he commands with a literal conductor's baton. After getting decisively humbled by Kazuma and losing his corporate backing, Asuka is forced to learn how to survive in the slums as a regular person, shedding his massive ego to become a genuinely reliable ally.
ASUKA THROUGH THE ARCHIVE //
ALTER ENCYCLOPEDIA //
Open page →Asuka controls eight small emerald Alter orbs that can rearrange into tools, weapons, shields and platforms. Their flexibility makes Eternity Eight one of the cleaner examples of an Alter being less about raw force than how creatively its user arranges the same basic pieces.
Why it matters
Asuka begins convinced that technique and HOLY training make him superior to Kazuma. Losing with a power this versatile is exactly why the defeat hits his worldview so hard.
HOLD, HOLY & THE MAINLAND //
Open page →Scheris Chooses Ryuho · Asuka Starts Questioning the Uniform
Scheris and Asuka begin on the same side of the wall, but HOLY does not mean the same thing to either of them. Asuka's defeat by Kazuma forces him to hear the Native side of the conflict and question the certainty he brought into the field. Scheris remains much more emotionally tied to Ryuho than to the institution around him.
Why it matters
Neither character needs to become Kazuma to stop functioning as a simple piece of HOLY. Asuka's confidence in the organization cracks when experience contradicts it. Scheris ultimately makes her defining choice for Ryuho himself, not for HOLD, HOLY or the Mainland. Their actual powers belong in Eternity Eight and Eternal Devote; this card is about what they do with their loyalties.
