ALPHONSE ELRIC
ALPHONSE THROUGH THE ARCHIVE //
COMBAT LEDGER //
Open page →Episodes 20–21 · Laboratory 5 · Result: Barry attacks Al's identity instead of only his armor
WHY IT MATTERS:
Barry nearly wins by making Al question whether there is an Alphonse Elric to defend. It is one of the few fights in the series where the decisive weapon is an idea.
Episode 14 · Central · Result: the brothers discover how badly outmatched they are
WHY IT MATTERS:
This is the moment Scar stops being a rumor attached to dead State Alchemists and becomes Edward's personal evidence that the title he fought to earn has made him somebody else's legitimate target.
Episodes 19–20 · Laboratory 5 · Result: Ed survives two souls in one armor
WHY IT MATTERS:
The battle turns soul binding from the desperate miracle Ed performed once into technology other people have learned to weaponize.
Episodes 46–47 · Result: Ed destroys the Homunculus created from Trisha
Edward ultimately uses the remains connected to their mother to weaken Sloth and forces himself to finish the fight.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Winning requires Ed to stop treating resemblance as resurrection. He cannot undo the original human transmutation until he accepts what it actually created.
STORY & ARC GUIDE //
Open page →Episodes 20–24 · Barry finds the weak point
If Ed can bind a soul to armor, Barry asks, how does Al know Ed did not simply create the memories too?
Episode 42 · the quest changes bodies
The object the brothers have chased since childhood is suddenly no longer something they can find, steal or refuse from a distance.
Liore Teaches Ed That a Fake Miracle Can Still Control Real People
Open →Episodes 1–2 · Cornello and the false Stone
Lust and Gluttony are already operating behind Cornello, which means the brothers' private search has wandered into somebody else's much larger project before they even know such a project exists.
Episode 7 · Shou Tucker
Ed has already committed human transmutation, but Tucker shows him another kind of violation: not grief-driven desperation, but treating a person as material because a career depends on producing a result.
Episodes 18–22 · prisoners as ingredients
Envy and Lust push Ed toward performing the transmutation himself.
Episodes 39–42
The difference is who Scar intends to sacrifice. He evacuates Liore's civilians and turns the approaching military force into the human cost of the transmutation.
Episodes 46–47
Episodes 49–51
The ending does not hand Edward a neat proof that effort always earns an equal reward.
THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE //
Open page →Episode 42
Suddenly the brothers are no longer Stone hunters. Alphonse himself contains the power every major faction has been pursuing.
Episode 50
It is the kind of impossible restoration the Stone was supposed to make possible from the beginning.
Cornello Shows Why a Fake Stone Is Still Dangerous
Open →Episodes 1–2
When it fails, the brothers learn almost nothing useful about where a real Stone is. They do learn how badly people want to believe in one.
Episodes 19–22
This is the closest the series comes to handing Ed his original wish exactly as requested.
Episode 51
The result does not neatly restore the brothers to the lives they expected when they began the journey. Edward ends up beyond the Gate while Al returns without the years of memories that followed their original transmutation.
2003 EXCLUSIVE VAULT //
Open page →Trisha Elric Homunculus
Sloth herself wants freedom from the emotional residue attached to that face, even if that means killing the brothers who keep awakening it.
HOMUNCULI - 2003 //
Open page →Ed and Al's failed mother
She does not want to be their mother. The brothers' presence instead awakens emotional residue she experiences as an unwanted burden, giving her a personal reason to erase them.
ISHBAL & THE MILITARY //
Open page →Liore · the same machinery, a new city
Scar understands what is happening and responds by building his own transmutation around the approaching soldiers while trying to move civilians out of the intended sacrifice zone.
Episode 42 · the Stone is completed
The revenge is understandable because of Ishbal. It is also deliberately uncomfortable.
LABORATORY 5 //
Open page →Prisoners are the supply chain
The brothers have spent the series looking for a substance powerful enough to bypass ordinary alchemical limits. Lab 5 reveals that the missing ingredient is not a rarer mineral or better transmutation circle.
Lab 5 guardians · Ed's mirror fight
For Edward, the fight demonstrates how many variations of the technique that saved Al have already been turned into military experimentation.
Serial killer · armor-bound soul
If souls can be attached to armor, Barry asks, how does Al know Edward did not create a convenient personality and supply it with invented memories?
STATE ALCHEMIST SYSTEM //
Open page →Written Examination
Open →Stage 1 · Theory
The important story detail is that raw talent is not enough. State certification is presented as something the military tests, filters and controls before an alchemist ever receives the silver watch.

Open →Stage 2 · The State decides whether it wants you
Rule 3 · The taboo the Elrics already broke
In the 2003 continuity, the consequences reach even farther because failed human transmutations are tied directly to the existence of Homunculi.
