Kaguya Otsutsuki is the ancient figure at the end of the war's hidden history. Long before the shinobi villages existed, she consumed the fruit of the God Tree and became the first person on Earth to wield chakra on an enormous scale. Her sons Hagoromo and Hamura eventually sealed her away, but Black Zetsu spends generations manipulating events so she can return. Madara becomes the vessel for that resurrection after casting the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Kaguya can move herself and her enemies between entire dimensions, manipulate bone into lethal projectiles and overwhelm Naruto and Sasuke with power that does not resemble ordinary ninjutsu. Team 7's final battle is not about killing her, but recreating the seal that ended her first reign.

The Ten-Tails and the God Tree are not unrelated monsters occupying the same war. The Jūbi is tied directly to the Shinju, and the conflict eventually exposes the creature as part of the mechanism needed to reclaim chakra and prepare the Infinite Tsukuyomi. What began as a tailed-beast superweapon becomes something closer to the biological infrastructure of the plan itself.
How you can tell
The battlefield monster gives way to an enormous rooted tree whose branches and roots spread across the terrain to seize living shinobi and drain their chakra. The visual language changes from beast anatomy to a world-scale plant network.

The Breakdown
The battle raged for months, reshaping global geography. The brothers combined their Sun and Moon crests to seal Kaguya into a gargantuan mass of earth that became the Moon, extracting the Ten-Tails chakra into nine separate beasts.

Reconstructed Team 7 engaged the primordial chakra progenitor across multiple parallel dimensions, with Kakashi utilizing dual-Mangekyo Kamui Raikiri and Obito sacrificing his body to absorb Kaguya's All-Killing Ash Bones.
The Breakdown
Sakura landed a monster-strength overhead blow to prevent Kaguya from flying upward, allowing Naruto (Sun Crest) and Sasuke (Moon Crest) to make physical contact simultaneously and trigger Six Paths: Chibaku Tensei to seal her into a new moon.
